Ngāti Kuri make application under the Marine & Coastal Area Act

The Marine and Coastal Area (Takutai Moana) Act 2011 acknowledges the importance of the marine and coastal area to all New Zealanders and provides for the recognition of the customary rights of iwi, hapū and whānau in the common marine and coastal area. Public access to the common marine and coastal area is guaranteed by the Act.

Ngāti Kuri have made an application for customary marine title in relation to our Area of Interest as defined in the Appendix to Ngāti Kuri Claims Settlement Act 2015 and out to 12 nautical miles. The application area includes the entire common marine and coastal area, out to 12 nautical miles, around Manawatawhi/Three Kings Islands and each of the Kermadec Islands.
